Farnborough International Studios were delighted to welcome Zoya Films to site to film their short film called Moderation in April. This film was supported by The British Film Institute as part of their short film fund which offers investment to new up and coming creatives to fund their film and support with advice and mentorship, with a rigorous selection process.
Across shooting days, Farnborough International Studios hosted a 30-strong crew to shoot across multiple places across the site, from offices to stairwells throughout the Farnborough International site.
Director and Creative Producer Zoe Jones described her experience at Farnborough International Studio and working with the team as ‘encouraging and flexible’, noting ‘[she] never felt as though there was a question [she] couldn't ask.’
In addition, the BFI Film Academy were able to offer two opportunities for entry level attendees under their ‘Shadow A Film Maker’ scheme, which is delivered by the Young Film Network team in conjunction with the National Lottery. This scheme aims to offer on-set film experience, as well as networking opportunities to build connections and contacts for the future. A local student from Farnborough College of Technology, Brenan Hicks, was delighted to gain a role in the costume department, giving him unrivalled access to experience working on a set closely with the cast and the ins and outs of the costume team’s repertoire.
Kat Haylett from Independent Cinema Office said: “With the support of the National Lottery, we offer the Shadow A Film Maker opportunity, to support film makers of the future and were pleased to offer two as part of the BFI funded short film filmed in Farnborough International Studios.”
Farnborough International Studios were also able to offer a runnership opportunity to Harrison Steadman with support from the Director and Creative producer Zoe Jones and Producer Alana Friend. Discussing the opportunity, Harrison said: “It was a great opportunity, and I was thrown in the deep end supporting the execs from the start but really enjoyed my experience.”
Although Farnborough International Studios is the home for blockbusters, the team feel passionately about being the home of a variety of production and will continue to support emerging talent into the growing industry.
